Child Rights Activists Group Meeting

The first child rights activists group was formed on 25th June 2026 at Thalahena Maha Vidyalaya.The group’s primary focus is on preventing child abuse, identifying vulnerable children, discussing issues affecting children, and developing appropriate solutions to address these concerns. It also aims to strengthen collaboration and build effective partnerships with relevant government authorities and other stakeholders in the area, in order to promote and protect the rights and well-being of children.

The meeting was attended by the Rev. Fr. Viraj Chamara, the Executive Director of the Don Bosco Development Center, the Principal of Thalahena Maha Vidyalaya, the Child Rights Promotion Officer of the Divisional Secretariat Negombo, a Woman Police Constable (WPC) from the Women and Children’s Bureau of the Dungalpitiya Police, the Rev. Mother Superior of Thalahena Convent, the Instructor of Thalahena Library, parents, representatives of the Old Boys’ Association, and staff members of the Don Bosco Development Center.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for stakeholders to discuss current child protection concerns, share responsibilities, strengthen coordination among institutions, and plan collaborative actions to ensure the safety, protection, and overall wellbeing of children in the community
