Negombo
The Technical School Negombo was started in 1962 to address the gap between less qualified youth and job market. In 1976, a boarding was begun to benefit the boys of the technical school. Later in 1983, “Dahampasala” was begun for the children of the locality as it has a semi- public church in the campus itself. The community engages in social work
and parish ministry. A new gym for the youth was inaugurated in 1996. The center has won the National Award for fighting child abuse and rehabilitating marginalized children in the Negombo area.
Murunkan
Don Bosco Murunkan was established in 2004 with a small boarding of 30
students. A small, non-formal technical school was added later. In 2009,
after the civil war, about 70 ex-carders (boys) were taken into the house
for rehabilitation. This serves as the home for male students and provides
a safe and holistic environment for the personality building. The English
Medium Primary School was opened in the year 2019. The service of the
community expands to a youth centre, an English academy, a youth
ministry, clubs, and peace building programs for war affected youth and
counseling services.
