On 25th July 2025, a special ceremony was held at Nochchiyagama to lay the foundation stone for a new school building.
The chief guest was His Lordship Rt. Rev.Dr. Don Norbert Marshall Andradi, Bishop of the Diocese of Anuradhapura. Also present were Rev. Fr. Roshan Miranda (The Provincial), Rev. Fr. Paul Sajeewaka (The Vice-Provincial), Rev. Fr. Viraj Chamara (Executive Director of DBDC), Rev. Fr. Ajith Kamal (The Economer), Rev. Fr. Saman Chinthana (Rector of Don Bosco Nochchiyagama), as well as many Salesians, Buddhist monks from nearby temples, government officials, the construction team, students, and parents from the Don Bosco School of Excellence and Technical Institute, Nochchiyagama.
The event began with a welcome by the school band, followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. Catholic and Buddhist prayer services were held to bless the occasion. A traditional dance performance was also presented. The event also included speeches by the dignitaries. His Lordship Rt. Rev.Dr. Don Norbert Marshall Andradi blessed the foundation stones and laid the first of the stones.
The proposed building will provide 13 classrooms, an IT lab, a science lab and other facilities. At the completion of the project the children at Nochchiyagama will have an environment that is conducive to engage in educational and other extracurricular activities.
