Poverty often creates a cycle that is difficult to break, especially for young people who lack access to education and opportunities. In response, the Don Bosco Development Centre (DBDC) launched the “Enhanced Sustainability through Skill Development” project to empower youth through vocational training.
As part of this initiative, the International Cookery Training Program (NVQ Level 4) commenced on 16th January 2026 at the Don Bosco Technical Centre, Negombo, with the generous support of Deutsche Bank AG, Singapore Branch.
The program has enrolled youth from diverse backgrounds, while also providing scholarships for economically disadvantaged students to ensure equal access to training. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practical sessions, trainees develop industry-relevant culinary skills aligned with NVQ standards.
This initiative aims to enhance employability in the hospitality and tourism sector, opening pathways to both local and international job opportunities. By equipping youth with professional skills and supporting those in need, the project contributes to sustainable livelihoods and long-term social impact.
