Currently, Sri Lanka is facing its worst economic crisis since its independence in 1948. Prices of the essential items like food, cooking gas, medicine have been increasing since the last quarter of 2021 and reached a record high in August 2022. According to the World Food Program, 6.3 million people of Sri Lanka’s population are food insecure. Of these, around 5.3 million people are either reducing meals or skipping meals, and at least 65,600 people are severely food insecure. In such a context, Don Bosco distributed nutritional food packs to many poor households, boarding houses, children homes and elders’ homes. 10,000+ individuals benefited through this initiative. 17 Don Bosco institutions located across the country ensured that the food packs reached the neediest.
